WTC Oculus..!

Visually striking, bird-like structure of Oculus at the World Trade Center photos thru my lens…

Good Morning,
“Oculus” is a Latin word that means “eye,” and the World Trade Center Transportation Hub, known as The Oculus, draws its name from this meaning. In architectural terms, an oculus refers to a round or eye-like opening, often found in domes or walls, that provides light and sometimes a view of the sky. The design of The Oculus at the World Trade Center incorporates this concept with its skylights along the roof, which frame views of the surrounding skyscrapers, including One World Trade Center. Oculus is widely considered an architectural marvel…

Renowned Spanish architect, Santiago Calatrava, designed the structure to resemble a bird being released from a child’s hands, symbolizing hope and peace, particularly in the context of the 9/11 attacks. The Oculus stands as a powerful symbol of resilience and rebirth in NYCity.

As you may know the Oculus itself, located at the World Trade Center site, is a landmark of resilience rather than a traditional picnic spot. While you can certainly find places to eat inside the Oculus or in the nearby vicinity, it’s not designed for spreading out a picnic blanket like a park. However, the Oculus is connected to the World Trade Center campus and the nearby Brookfield Place through underground concourses, which eventually lead to the Hudson River waterfront…

Believe it or not, I had an opportunity to shoot while Oculus was under construction 20 years ago thru my friend world famous photographer and WTC chief projects photographer Joe Woodhead…
Well, we went to see the same historic, spectacular and huge Oculus project last night and I was remembering my personal photographic thrilling experience. Please enjoy attached photos…
Stay Safe & Healthy,

Jayant.
